 Who Fixes This Stuff?

Do you ever wonder how the church buildings and grounds and all our equipment is maintained? Who is responsible? Who does the work?

The answer is a group of dedicated members of our church who sit on the Trustees Committee. This group is one of the Discipline-mandated committees required by the UMC and they have the extremely difficult responsibility to keep everything in working order...and clean...and painted...and trimmed...and the list goes on forever.

Recently, they repaired all the locks on the exterior doors. They’re all in good working order now, so do your part and check the doors when you are leaving to make sure that all the doors are locked.

During the July meeting, the Trustees voted to remove the shrubbery from the entryway in front of the Narthex. This will be done to make the entrance appear more “open” and to create new space for fellowship before and after church events.

Although the Trustees are responsible for the condition of our facilities, we can all lend a hand. Pick up after yourself. Fix a small problem before it becomes a large problem and report problems when you first see them. You can also volunteer to help maintain our campus. Do you have a skill (or skills) that could be used to maintain or improve our church? Ask Bill Grubbs, Trustees Chairman, where you can be of assistance. He would love to give you a mission and we all appreciate every effort to keep Asbury looking good!

 Find Your Calling and Serve

As you read the articles in this newsletter, you may see one word repeated over and over again: volunteers. At Asbury UMC, we serve God and He gives us so much to do. Our responsibilities seem endless and overwhelming, but we know that we can never do enough to repay him for his gift of Grace. He demands NOTHING for His gift, but we should always work to please Him through the enthusiastic giving of our talents to aid in the ministry of this church.

Even if you don’t have much free time, know that volunteering to help is not a lifetime commitment. Give something a try. If a particular job, mission, or ministry is right for you, you will want to keep doing it. If it isn’t right for you, there are plenty of other opportunities to serve! God brought you here for a reason. Keep trying until find the perfect fit.
